GENERAL

  1. The Kaakberg is professionally cleaned before you come. We use the Corona rules, as they apply in the Netherlands. See additional FAQ page.
  2. If you want the house to be cleaned extra in between, we can arrange that for you. The costs are 100 euros.
  3. You have several keys: one for the front door, one for the sauna, for the door on the first floor, one for the small (bicycle) shed at the front and a small key for the bicycle locks. Please don't forget to put them back on the coat rack in the hall when you leave. Take them with you when you're away, even if you're picking up something from your car. The front door locks itself behind you. Ask for an extra bunch if you need separate keys. DON'T FORGET TO RETURN THE KEYS BEFORE YOU DEPART!
  4. If you still have to pay anything, please do so on the day of arrival or the day after.
  5. The terraces above and below behind the Kaakberg, the spa, sauna are private for you. The laundry room is shared with us.
  6. Please do not move the furniture and beds. We will put the beds together or off at your request. Please indicate what you want when booking.
  7. Wooden floors: the floors in the Kaakberg are made of untreated oak. If you drop something, please clean or pick up immediately. Use above the bath mat in the bathroom and wipe up any spilled water after using the bath or shower with a cloth. While showering, slide the glass wall to protect the wooden floor. Thank you!
  8. Park the car to the side or in a way that other cars can easily pull out.
  9. If you have any questions or requests or need advice on nearby activities, public transportation or other matters, don't hesitate and ask us.
  10. Smoking is not allowed in the Kaakberg. There is a fine of 250 Euros, if it does happen, because we have to air extra, clean or perhaps compensate guests after you. Please empty the ashtrays outside, not inside the garbage can, but in the gray bin behind the shed at the front.
  11. Please use an ashtray on the terraces or in the garden. If this is not there, please ask us.
  12. Respect the tranquility and beauty of the area. Always take your waste with you when you have been on the beach. Please no loud music outside.

SUSTAINABILITY and WASTE TREATMENT

  1. We use solar panels for electricity, an economical HR boiler, thermostatic valves and separate the waste according to the guidelines of the Municipality of Edam-Volendam. The waste bins are behind the shed at the front. (see also point 3. BEFORE DEPARTURE). For reasons of hygiene (fruit flies, stench) we do not have a separate 'green' waste bin at the top of the kitchen. If you wish, we can provide you with large recyclable paper bags to fill and toss into the green bin yourself.
  2. We kindly ask you to participate in saving energy and water. See also the SPA section.
  3. If available, you may come and pick cultivated herbs and vegetables from the kitchen garden (ask us) and we will provide you with fresh eggs from the chickens, also if available. Everything is grown organically, we don't use poison and the chickens also get organic feed. Don't feed them, they get everything they need.
  4. We have installed Aquacell which means we have calcium free water. This has consequences for the use of soap, shampoo, dishwasher and washing machine. You will experience that the water is very soft and good for your skin. Please use only a few drops of soap and shampoo; use only 20 grams of powder or half a block in the dishwasher. We save detergent, energy and water. The water is very good to drink.

HORREN

  1. The screens are very fragile, so we ask you to pay extra attention, especially with wind
  2. Rule 1: open windows, use screens. Rule 2: close windows, do not use screens, please slide back well. Ask for, or read the user manual how to open and close the doors, windows and screens in the different rooms
  3. Since we live next to the lake and in the countryside, there can be mosquitoes and flies at times. In certain winds and warm weather, it can happen that many IJsselmeer flies come over the dike. Therefore, always use the screens in the house, but only open the windows and screens that are not on the wind. Do not leave doors open, especially at night be careful with a lot of light inside. We also have mosquito nets in case you want one.

SPA and SAUNA

  1. Please read the Spa instructions carefully. Do not use sunscreen or shower very well . No children who are not potty trained in the spa, and older children only under supervision (it is not a swimming pool) Preferably do not use the spa for more than half an hour at a time and always close the lid when not in use to save energy.

LAUNDRY ROOM

  1. The use of the washing machine and dryer for white and colored laundry is included. Please read the instructions carefully or ask us. The washing machine: We use specially dosed detergent and save energy and water. The detergent is already installed for the normal program (white (WHITE) and colored laundry (VAT)). Choose Favourites: WHITE or BTW 60 or 40 degrees C. For wool you have to bring your own detergent and add it in the large container on the left.

SHEETS, TOWELS etc.

  1. You will be provided with clean sheets, pillowcases, tea towels and hand towels etc if you ask. If you need more or new ones in between, please let us know. Bed linen for the sofa beds is stored in the baskets.
  2. Please only bring colored bath towels on the beach.
  3. It is not allowed to dye your hair , because we can no longer get these stains out of the towels.
  4. If something is no longer available in the bathroom (soap, shampoo, etc.) or if you need something special, feel free to ask us.

KITCHEN

  1. Use the extractor hood while cooking. The entire Kaakberg is protected by fire detectors, which can go off if you don't. Be careful of hot pots on the counter and table.
  2. Coffee maker: Senseo or filter coffee, they booklet.
  3. There is some sugar, coffee and tea for you before arrival. We also have a Senseo, but you must bring your own 'pads'. Sometimes there are still some in the cupboard.
  4. The instructions for the dishwasher and microwave are in the cupboard.

DOG CAT

  1. If you are bringing a dog, please note that only well behaved dogs are welcome. Please stick to the rules. Do not let them sit on the furniture or beds and clean them before they come up. Preferably do not leave a dog at home alone or leave him in a crate. Note the ditch in your garden. It often happens that a dog ends up in the muddy ditch and that is no fun. If it does happen, ask us to clean the garden hose.
  2. We have a Schapendoes (Jamie) ourselves and he is very sweet and playful. Our garden and your garden are separated by a fence.

BICYCLES

  1. We have 4 free bicycles for the guests. You can rent more in Edam.
  2. Always lock the bicycle if you use it outside the Kaakberg. This is not necessary in the shed, but always lock the shed.
  3. Let us know if there is something wrong with the bike and we will have it repaired.
  4. You can of course also park your own bicycle in the shed.

THE OUTDOOR LIFE

  1. Because you are staying in a nature reserve, there are animals around you. Birds, horses, lambs, cows and sheep, but also insects. Important for nature, but sometimes difficult for people. That is why we have screens everywhere against mosquitoes and flies and we regularly have the facades cleaned of spiders. In August and September that can be a challenge. Let us know if we need to help you, if a spider has unexpectedly sneaked in.
  2. She also: News Dike reinforcement.
    You can walk anywhere on or under the dike, even if there are fences. But watch out for the nettles and sheep dung on the path on the dike.
  3. The beach is full of shells from the former Zuiderzee. We have some water shoes or for the guests, or you can bring your own. S\The beach: unfortunately, due to the work of the dyke improvement, the beach is less accessible. However, we know many alternative places to swim.
  4. Please note, from approximately April to October between 9 and 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. cows are taken from one pasture to the other on the dike. A nice scene for a photo, but annoying if you're in a hurry. Keep this in mind if you have to catch a plane, for example.
  5. If you hear stumbling at night: these are the neighbours' horses. Sometimes you can also hear noises from the ceiling. Those are birds under the roof tiles. They are not rats or mice, so don't worry :)

BEFORE DEPARTURE

  1. We kindly ask you to do a number of things for us before you leave, unless you have to leave very early to catch a plane, for example, then we will of course do that for you.
  2. We kindly ask you to leave the house in the same condition as you found it on arrival. Let us know if something is broken.
  3. Put the garbage bag in the gray bin outside, next to the small black shed in front. Residual waste and plastic are allowed in there (will be separated later). Please put paper and cardboard inside at the front door. Collect the empty bottles and put them in the large collection bin where the gray bin is. The green bin: see Sustainability and Waste Processing
  4. Place the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and turn it on.
  5. Collect the dirty towels and tea towels and put them in the tub or on the floor in the washroom. Leave the sheets and pillowcases on the bed when you leave. We pick them up and change the beds.
  6. The cleaning ladies come at 11 am. Please let us know if you would like to check out earlier. They then have more time to get things ready for the new guests arriving at 3pm.

If you wish, we can give you large recyclable paper bags to fill and throw in the recycling bin yourself.

  2. Rule 1: open windows, use insect screens. Rule 2: close windows, do NOT use insect screens, please push back properly. Ask for or read the instructions on how to open and close the doors, windows and screens in the different areas.
  3. As we live next to the lake and in the countryside, there can sometimes be mosquitoes and flies. With certain wind and warm weather it can happen that many small flies come over the dike. Therefore always use the screens in the house, but only open the windows and screens that are not exposed to the wind. Do not leave doors open, especially at night look out with a lot of light inside. We also have mosquito nets in case you want one.

SPA and SAUNA

  1. Please read the Spa instructions carefully. DOG / CAT

Preferably do not leave a dog at home alone or in a crate. Watch the ditch near your garden. It often happens that a dog ends up in a muddy ditch and that is no fun.   2. We have a dog (Jamie) ourselves and he is very sweet. Guest who are allergic to cats may come after you. That is why we prefer not to allow cats, unless we have a few days to extra clean the Kaakberg of cat hair. Please discuss with us first what is possible.

BIKES

  1. We have 4 free bicycles for the guests. You can rent more in Edam.
  2. Always lock the bicycle when using it outside the Kaakberg. This is not necessary in the shed, but always lock the shed.
  3. Let us know if there is something wrong with the bike and we will have it fixed.
  4. You can of course also park your own bicycle in the shed.
